The Ignatian Fund
The Ignatian Fund was established years ago with the purpose of helping families to “get back on track” with missed tuition payments due to death or a serious illness of a parent, student, or sibling. Job loss, or reduced work hours are also considered qualifying criteria to apply. To request an application please send an e-mail to Vicky Kilway ( kilwayv@walshjesuit.org). Please include your name and your student's name(s).
To be considered, these applications are due back on Friday, May 1. If awarded, Ignatian Fund Grants do not need to be repaid. |

Summer Health (AVLI)
The Ohio Department of Education requires that all high school students successfully complete a Health course as a requirement for graduation. Most Walsh Jesuit students take Health during the school year. For rising Juniors (Class of 2022) and rising Seniors (Class of 2021) who have not been able to fit Health in their schedules during their first two years as Walsh Jesuit students, we permit them to take an online course entitled, “Growing Up Healthy," through the Arrupe Virtual Learning Institute (AVLI) during the summer. We only permit rising Sophomores (Class of 2023) to take the online Health course during the summer if their personal and academic circumstances necessitate an online option. Any rising Sophomore interested in this option must first gain approval from his/her counselor and then the Assistant Principal for Academics, Mr. Sean Lynch. Any student who meets the aforementioned qualifications and is interested in taking the Growing Up Healthy course through AVLI this summer, must do the following prior to May 1:
1. Send an email confirming their interest in taking the course to Sean Lynch ( lynchs@walshjesuit.org) with the following information:
- Student name, WJ email address, and home phone
- Parent name and parent email
2. Send a check made out to “Walsh Jesuit High School” for $27.50 to the school at the following address:

Summer Conditioning & Fitness*
Summer Conditioning & Fitness is for upperclassmen who have taken Physical Education, are involved in performing arts (Band, Choir, or Strings), and cannot fit Conditioning & Fitness into their regular schedules. No other students are eligible to take the course. A student must receive approval from his/her counselor in order to sign up for the course. The Summer Conditioning & Fitness course costs $200, and there are a limited number of spots available. Any interested student must contact Mr. Sean Lynch ( lynchs@walshjesuit.org) to sign-up prior to May 1. Placement in the course will be based on two factors: grade level (Seniors get priority, then Juniors and Sophomores) and order of sign-up (first come, first served). Notification regarding placement will take place after May 1. The single session will run for 9 days at 3 hours and 15 minutes per day this summer. The following dates/times have been established for the Summer Conditioning & Fitness course session:
- Week of Monday, June 22 – Friday, June 26 (9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.)
- Week of Monday, June 29 – Thursday, July 2 (9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.)
*Note: All summer activities at Walsh Jesuit are tentative and pending social distancing guidelines and regulations established by the governor of the State of Ohio and decisions made by the Walsh Jesuit administration. Changes to scheduled activities will be communicated if and when they occur.

Distance Learning Reminders
Teachers will communicate with each of their classes daily, by 10:00 a.m. This may be by MyWJ, e-mail, or other communication.
- All teachers will post assignments on MyWJ. (Be aware of the different places that teachers may opt to post this information: “Topics,” “Bulletin Board,” etc.).
- Teachers will provide their classes with a weekly schedule to help students plan and manage their time.
Beginning today, April 15, and continuing for the duration of this year’s online learning, we are designating Wednesdays as special work days for students and teachers:
- No assignments may be due on Wednesdays.
- No new assignments/assessments/material may be given on Wednesdays.
- Teachers will be available for “live conferencing” with students for two hours between 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Teacher will communicate these “office hours” to their students.
- Students are still expected to continue working on assignments on Wednesdays, but now have designated opportunities to ask questions of and interact with teachers to ensure clarity of instruction. Your teachers may identify other times outside of Wednesdays when they are available for “live conferencing.”

Student Illness
During this period of distance learning, if a student is ill to the point of being unable to engage in their schoolwork on a particular day, a parent should notify the student’s teachers by e-mail explaining the situation. Please copy the Deans’ Office on the e-mail ( hudecj@walshjesuit.org). If the illness extends to multiple days, a separate e-mail for each day is required.

The Principal's Office Weekly E-Bulletin is sent electronically every Wednesday that school is in session and incorporates important information from several departments. Please continue to check MyWJ and the Walsh Jesuit Website for information regarding all school organizations and events. |
